Extremely active in the Wise Use movment, Defenders of Property Rights was founded in 1991 by former staffers of the Mountain States Legal Foundation.

Defenders is a member of the Cooler Heads Coalition (5/04), Get Government Off Our Backs, Grassroots ESA Coalition, and the Alliance for America.
